What is Student Housing?

Homes for Students

Student apartments are affordable homes built especially for students. Student housing is available for all types of housing needs: whether you live alone, with a flatmate or a partner or a family. Student
apartments are made to fit students’ needs and are often located on campus, in central areas or along good public transportation connections.

Student housing is meant for students studying secondary or tertiary education, e.g. in high school,
vocational school or in higher education. Please check for more details with your local student housing
provider.

Student Housing is Affordable

Student housing is an affordable housing option. Student housing rents are set by cost-rent principle, i.e.
based on actual incurred expenses. Therefore student housing rents can be as much as 40 percent below
market price in the biggest university cities. Also, utilities such as electricity and internet access are often
incluced in the rent – this means less additional expenses.

Because of the affordable rents, students are left with more money to cover other living expenses.

For the Good of the Students

Student housing is provided by non-profit organizations: student housing foundations, municipality-owned non-profit companies, student unions and associations. They are not out to make a profit, but to provide quality housing that fits students’ needs and wishes at an affordable price.
